Drury Hem Sheela Recreation Centre
We express our profound appreciation and deepest gratitude to them—the noble hearts that carry boundless enthusiasm and an ardent, passionate outburst of sentiments for “MOUNT HEM SHEELA.” Designed to inspire physical excellence and competitive spirit, the DHRC boasts a massive carpet area of 12,01,000 sq. ft. It houses an auditorium, an amphitheatre, a swimming pool, and a sprawling sports complex. The indoor sports arena features facilities for Table Tennis, Chess, Badminton, Basketball, Carrom, and Swimming, along with 4 indoor Badminton courts, 1 indoor Basketball court, and a gallery with a seating capacity of 1500, making it fully equipped to host any type of National and State-level competitions. Equipped with modern infrastructure for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities, this dynamic space provides students with the ultimate arena to push their limits. Outside the DHRC Sports Complex, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Cricket are played on the lush green field. It serves as a venue for sporting events, fitness programs, recreational activities, and community gatherings, fostering a spirit of collaboration and inclusivity. Different coaching classes are conducted, even in the evening hours, under the guidance of our expert coaching staff. Students do more than play—they build resilience, master teamwork, and develop the leadership skills necessary to thrive both on and off the field. As a cherished landmark on the school campus, the Drury Hem Sheela Recreation Centre continues to enrich student life by providing a space where learning extends beyond the classroom. It symbolises the power of international collaboration in education and remains a lasting legacy of friendship, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to nurturing future-ready global citizens.
Sister School Relationship with Drury University, USA
Hem Sheela Model School and Drury University (USA) share a unique sister school relationship that fosters global academic and cultural exchange programs, enhancing educational opportunities for students and faculty of both institutions. Envisioned by Dr. Rabindra N. Roy, the founder of Hem Sheela Model School, the partnership was created with the sole purpose of elevating the educational experiences across both campuses, leading to Hem Sheela Model School being officially recognised as a sister school of Drury University since 2002. This exchange between the occidental and the oriental creates unique global educational experiences that shape the sister school relationship, fostering new teaching techniques supported by contemporary teaching aids. The partnership facilitates cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and mutual growth. Through this bond, students from Hem Sheela Model School gain exposure to international educational standards and opportunities for higher studies abroad, while Drury University students and faculty benefit from immersive experiences in India. Joint programs, workshops, and exchange visits continuously enrich the academic environment, fostering a global perspective and promoting cross-cultural understanding. Ultimately, this collaboration exemplifies a strong commitment to expanding educational horizons and building lasting international ties. Over the years, visits by eminent Drury administrators and supporters have strengthened this bridge time and again. Notable guests include Dr. John Moore and Mr. John Beuerlein, Member of the Board of Trustees at Drury University, who visited Hem Sheela in 2007, 2009, 2013, and 2017. The school was also honored by visits from Nobel Laureate Dr. Johann Deisenhofer of the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and his wife Dr. Kirsten Fischer Lindahl in 1996, 2005, and 2010. Additionally, Dr. Michael P. Doyle, a distinguished University Professor in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Texas at San Antonio, visited alongside his wife Mrs. Janice Doyle in 2007 and 2016. Alongside these distinguished leaders, many eminent professors, university students, and education majors have regularly visited Hem Sheela Model School, continuously reinforcing and deepening this invaluable relationship.
Amphitheatre - a stage for expression and excellence
The amphitheatre is a dynamic and versatile space that brings the school community together for a wide variety of activities. Serving as a vibrant platform for artistic and intellectual expression, it regularly hosts panel discussions, debates, elocution sessions, and Model United Nations (MUN) conferences designed to cultivate strong public speaking skills. The spacious and aesthetically designed area inspires creativity and active participation, providing students with valuable opportunities to develop confidence, leadership abilities, and stage presence. With its inviting open-air setting, the amphitheatre creates an engaging atmosphere that acts as a central hub of collaboration, communication, and creative self-expression.
International Relationship
Dr. Rabindra N. Roy, renowned for his undergraduate research program at Drury University, USA, often referred as the ‘Champion of Undergraduate Research‘ was ever determined to provide a world class educational experience to his students. He often invited scientists from around the world with whom he had performed his research activities. Nobel Laureate Dr Johann Deisenhofer and his wife Dr Kirsten Fischer Lindahl visited HSMS four times and interacted and inspected various projects made by our students. Dr Michael and Janice Doyle had a very positive influence in the school’ s overall development as they visited HSMS a number of times. The partnership stands as a testament to Hem Sheela Model School's commitment to excellence, innovation, and global learning. Together, Hem Sheela Model School and Drury University will continue to build bridges of knowledge, friendship, and mutual respect across continents.
